ANXIETY ATTACKS AND TURKEYS
I could feel it coming.
I couldn’t figure out why it was coming though.
I had an anxiety attack in the middle of our live stream this past Friday. We’ve been doing this live stream for over five years and it’s tons of fun. You should watch. It’s on Friday’s at 9:30am ET and I usually don’t have anxiety attacks.
After the show, I took some time to rest and reflect on just what the hell was wrong with me.
I thought to myself, maybe it’s because there were a number of uncertainties in my life currently.
So, I started making a list and… holy hell, there are A LOT of things up in the air currently.
Making that list didn’t help but it did make me think more. Living with uncertainty is not unusual for the self-employed like me. It becomes like a roommate you can’t stand but occasionally makes things fun and exciting… and pays the rent.
Then I connected a recent doctor’s appointment that has brought up two more uncertainties of the health variety (I’m fine). Made worse by the fact that I didn’t go the doctor for either of those reasons (again, I’m fine).
That seemed to be the tipping point for my anxiety.
Thinking about what was stirring up my anxiety didn’t really help to calm my nerves but it did give me a little perspective.
However what really helped is talking about it… like right now with you. With my family and a good friend or two.
Pulling mental health out of the shadows, where it’s easy to build it up as uglier and bigger monster than it actually is, and pushing it into the full light of day can sometimes show you that’s it’s not that ugly and not that big…
Talking about mental health makes it seem more like a normal human thing. Which, of course, it is.
Never be afraid to talk to a trusted person about any mental health struggles you may be having. We all go through them. Every damn one of us.
Thanks for letting me share mine. I’m thankful for that this Thanksgiving.
