This is a short one this week because
I’m in the UK
It’s Father’s Day
I’m tired
I’ve noticed that when I’m travelling abroad/out of the country, and perhaps you do this too, I become an unofficial ambassador for my country.
This is a good thing for lots of reasons.
It makes you draw upon all the best stereotypes of your homeland. I crank up the Canadian politeness. I make sure I say please and thank you for every little thing
It makes you, probably, a better guest. There’s a feeling that you’re wearing your team colours and therefore you have a responsibility to behave.
It makes you appreciate what you have. I have never sung the praises of Toronto more than when I am abroad.
It’s a feeling I want to carry with me when I get home and I mean, why shouldn’t/wouldn’t I?
Enjoy where you’re from. Be proud of the good bits.
Be an ambassador.
