BE SOMEONE'S GOOD LUCK - Brittlestar’s Weekly Newsletter - Issue #37
A brand new episode of my Really Great Podcast is out now. This week my guest is CTV Film Critic, Richard Crouse and I get him to spill the beans on his personal stories with Madonna, Lady Gaga, Brad Pitt, how he fixed Dustin Hoffman‘s watch and more. You can get it here or wherever you get podcasts
BE SOMEONE'S GOOD LUCK
I don’t believe in altruism.
You know, the idea that people do good things for no reason other then they want to do good things.
I don’t buy it.
I don’t buy it and I don’t care.
I’m just happy good things are being done. If doing a good thing makes you feel better, or makes you think people will respect you, or if you get some kind of reward for doing it… it doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is a good thing was done.
I know not everyone agrees with this and I know there are boundaries. For example, some people have filmed other people who are down and out and then filmed themselves offering food or such to them. I understand that showing someone’s plight can underline the impact of the good thing that is being done… but exploiting people is a line I don’t want to cross. That kind of cancels out the good thing to me.
That said… if you want to film yourself doing a good thing, great. I firmly believe that modelling good behaviour encourages others.
Some people cringe and call that virtue signalling.
I agree. But what’s wrong with signalling good virtues?
If you can do good and you can be someone’s good luck, do it.
It doesn’t matter why you do it. Just do it.
If you get rewarded by feeling good, praise from friends, whatever… who cares? The good thing you did remains done.
Be someone’s good luck.
