Brittlestar Weekly - Issue #1
A weekly short essay about something I want/need to vent/mock about. Thanks for reading.
GET A GRIP
Are you tired of these lockdowns that are just forced on us by the government?
Probably as part of some deep state plan to destroy the economy?
Are you you just not buying the whole “this virus is deadly” story because, I mean, you don’t know anyone who’s died from it.
Are you tired of these freedom gags… I mean masks that we’re forced to wear?
Don’t worry
Now there’s a solution…
“Get A Grip”
That’s right.
Get. A. Grip.
If you asked me what I thought one of the worst jobs in the world is, I’d probably say cleaner in an Long Term Care residence.
No wait.
Cleaner in a long term care residence… during a pandemic.
THAT’s got to be one of the worst jobs in the world.
And that’s exactly the job Yassin Dabeh stepped up to do. An immigrant who’d only been in Canada since 2016. Only 19 years old and instead of just working on his hairstyle like I did when I was his age, he stepped up and took that job. He became an essential worker.
A frontline hero.
Then he caught COVID and died.
19 years old.
Dead.
This virus is serious and it’s actually happening. As hard as that is to comprehend for some people.
Even the people who tell you “yeah, but it has an over a 99% survival rate!”
That means that if you went to the Scotiabank Arena to see a Leafs game with 18,000 other fans…
and you all got COVID…
instead of just watching the Leafs and dying inside, 180 people might actually die.
You’d probably stop going to games. I certainly would.
It’s been said that we’re all in this together, but we’re not really, are we?
Some people, like Yassin, are out there actually helping to keep things going.
You know, like an actual hero.
Whereas other people are bravely marching into *checks notes* Shoppers Drug Mart to protest the fact they have to occasionally wear a mask and stop potentially killing those around them.
Get a grip.
We’re almost there.
Let’s do what we can to help each other through this.
