CHANGE. NOBODY CARES. - Brittlestar’s Weekly Newsletter - Issue #30
I released a video this week called ‘We Will Never Be This Young Again’. Over 80K people watched it and I receive lots of lovely messages about it. I wrote the song in the background. You can stream/download the song here
CHANGE. NOBODY CARES.
In the past 8 years I’ve learned a lot from social media.
Not just about social media stuff like algorithms, ratios and why concealer is your friend but also about people.
I used to think that everything I created would be my swan song. The final creation that I would be judged by history on for evermore. Truth is, you don’t get to choose how people see you or will see you.
Don’t get me wrong. You should actively work to create the impression you wish to project. That said, you’re lucky if people will notice at all.
My videos have been seen more than 600 million times. I get recognized all over the world (well, if we define ‘world’ as Canada, US and UK). Often it feels like I’m TOO high profile. Constantly in people’s faces. Pitching a new video, some new merch, or my butter tart vodka.
Then I talk to people who I think must be sick of my face (meaning we know each other) and THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M UP TO. Literally no idea. I get asked if I’m still making videos.
I’ve learned a couple of things from that…
My ego is very delicate but soldiers on… bruised.
People are busy with their own lives. So I don’t need to stress about making changes to what I do.
I’ve been working on my Canada Last Week podcast for the past couple of months. It’s done well but I felt it could be doing a whole lot better.
It needed to change.
However, I felt that change would be seen by people as a betrayal, or admission of a failure…. when in reality, people do not care.
So I’ve changed the entire podcast. New format, new name (Brittlestar’s Really Great Podcast), new everything. Why? Because I think it can be better.
I don’t need to start from scratch, but I do need to change and that’s okay.
That’s better than okay, actually. It’s great.
Change… well, change you’ve thought about and planned for, is usually always for the better.
We need to remember that we’re not shackled to who we are or what we’re doing today.
We can change.
It’s not a betrayal. It’s not an admission of failure. It’s a change.
And really? Nobody cares.
As long as you’re not hurting yourself or anyone else… a change for the better is for the better.
Change. Nobody cares.
