IT'S NOT MAGIC
I used to work in a toy store.
I ended up getting fired because the owners didn’t like me telling them what they were doing wrong. Fair enough.
However, before I worked there the owners were trying hard to get me to become an employee. One of the owner couple would come over to another shop where I was working and show me magic tricks.
Yes, this does sound like he was grooming me for something nefarious but I was an adult and it was all innocent despite how creepy that all sounds.
I would be blown away by the tricks. I remember saying to him after he did the disappearing handkerchief trick that I could never do that. He said that was nonsense and that anyone could learn.
Then he taught me how to do the trick.
I practiced and then blew the minds of other people I’d show it to.
The toy store used to have us walk around the store and perform these close-up magic tricks for customers. I remember vividly asking a woman holding a baby if I could show her a magic trick (anywhere else except a toy store that question is a red flag obviously). She recoiled, covered the baby’s face with a blanket and angry-whispered to me “There’s no such thing as magic!” Then quickly departed the store.
Uh, that’s right, scared lady. It’s just a trick I’ve learned. I’m not ACTUALLY magic and if I was do you think I’d be working in a toy store?
It’s easy to watch someone do something you’ve never done before and think it’s impossible, but it’s not impossible. In fact, it’s more than likely very possible.
You just need to take a breath, relax and learn.
Since those toy store days I’ve tried to perceive new skills or goals as magic tricks . Totally awe inspiring but once you know how to do them, you can do them.
Don’t get discouraged.
Everything new you want to learn how to do is just another magic trick.
