We were recently waiting on some medical test results.
The timing wasn’t great. We had been talking about a work trip that would see us going to a place that we’d always wanted to visit. We went through the usual feelings of “gosh, I dunno”, “should we be spending that money”, and the worst one “maybe we should just go another time”.
It was a decision that we laboured over.
Then we had to wait for medical test results.
We hadn’t even been thinking about the test results but a missed phone call and a standard pleasant voicemail asking us to call the doctor’s office turned all of our blissful ignorance on its stupid ignorant head.
The notion hit me that we might not have the luxury of choosing to go or not. That choice might have been made for us.
A few days of tense anticipation finally broke with a phone call.
All clear.
Suddenly the clarity of the current point in our lives was evident.
Go. Now.
Sure we could wait, but what happens tomorrow? Next week? Next year?
Right now kinda works and we might not get the chance… or choice again.
So… we’re going.
I’m not suggesting or endorsing the idea that you should throw caution, responsibility and good sense to the wind and dive headlong into a far-fetched plan… but…
I am saying that sometimes, when things in our lives are actually okay, or at least manageable, we think they’re still not the best time to pursue the things in life we want, and are able, to do.
We get suckered into thinking this isn’t the perfect time. That somehow things will be better next week/year/decade.
And you know what? They might be.
They also might not.
If you want to do something and you can see a way to make it happen right now, maybe you should choose to make it happen.
Someday you won’t have a choice.

LIVE FOR TODAY 'CAUSE THAT'S ALL WE'VE GOT FOR SURE.
My deepest regrets are the questions never discussed, the stories unheard, the missing scenes not woven into life's infinite ongoing tapestry. Just do it!
Now.
