To some extent, we have all brought this upon ourselves. Much like bystanders to bullying, we must also now step up as bystanders to abuse. Announce that such abuse is not acceptable, verify that it stops and, if not, then be prepared to intervene to the maximum extent of our tolerable discomfort. Sorry, eh?

"until we don’t have signs explaining how to act like normal non-jerk humans"

This says it all ...

As a former bank teller & now loan assistant-back up receptionist, I can tell you that once you’re out the door or off the phone, we say all the horrible things that we were thinking as we smiled and nodded as you were being a ginormous a-hole (I might hit ya back if you dared hit me)

As much as I hate seeing those signs (or noticing that the store has deemed it necessary to post security guards on its premises), what really jars me is visiting the USA and seeing the “Don’t bring your firearms inside” signs on the entry doors to businesses.

It's Trust and Isolation! So many so isolated for so long that common decency and manners have been forgotten and our mental health has deteriorated to the point of not being aware of the hurt and meanness that we place on others. Only time and awareness of these conditions will alleviate our Trust issues. Once we start to Trust again we won't be so Isolated. See Goodness! Behave Better! Be Kind!

I too have noticed the signs at McDonalds and walk-in clinics. I have made it a point to make my interaction with the service people as pleasant as possible. Lots of please, thank you, and have a good day. Its not much but if I can put a smile on a face it was worth it. Was a federal civil servant for 35 yrs and know the value of being appreciated and/or respected. It's the least we can do through the trauma of Covid. (still masking and still saying thank you)

I wonder if this is a carry over from the abuse people feel they can dish out on line. Maybe Covid made this worse. I am horrified at the stories my friends who teach tell about what is going on in classrooms now . Makes me happy to be retired . Everyone seems to be snarling over silly stuff and the lack of respect for others is astounding.
